Stay Sane and Un-Bored While Quarantined

staying unbored

With the coronavirus going around, it’s likely that you are self-quarantined to your home (or will be soon). That can be reeeeally boring. So what can you do while you’re pining away under the reign of Boredom? Here are forty two ideas! 🙂

  • Listen to Audios

This is one of my favorite things to do. I love sitting down with a craft or baking or coloring and listening to audios while I do it. Ahh. Perfect!

  • Do School Work

Sometimes when I’m bored, I’ll just go and catch up on school work. It gets it done and I find that I’m not so bored anymore! 😉 😝

  • Make Your Own Game Show

This is so much fun! Create your own game show with your siblings and parents. 😉

  • Play Games

DSCF1311Board, dice and card games are really fun. We recently got a Monopoly set which can make hours pass by pretty fast. Some other games that we love here are Gubs, Bang, Uno, Castles of Caladale, Forbidden Island, Forbidden Sky, Guillotine, Carcassonne and The Oregon Trail. 🙂 Games can kill hours of time.

  • Eat

This is the obvious answer. Eating is always fun. XD Make a huge bowl of cookie dough or grab that carton of ice cream and have a feast. 🍦🎂🍰  (Then of course you get stuffed full, which isn’t fun. XD)

  • Journal

Grab that blank notebook and write down the details of your time of quarantine. Believe me, you’ll be glad you did this later. It’ll be fun to look back and see what life was like during the time of Covid-19.

  • Send Emails

Ah yes. Remember all of those emails that you’re always avoiding because you never have time to respond? Valla! The time has come. Sit down and respond to all of those lovely people who are probably just as bored as you are. 🙂 😉

  • Write Letters

Picture3Letters are like a little ray of sunshine. They make everything feel brighter – even on the darkest days. Send a friend, grandparent or cousin a letter. It’ll make them happier, I can guarantee. This is also a good time to send notes to people in nursing homes, as they are on lockdown due to the virus.

(And if you’re like me and have several pen pals already, write back to all of those letters sitting beside your computer.) 😜

  • Write a Story

Sit down and write a story. This is the perfect time to spend hours developing a plot, creating characters and building a masterpiece.

  • Chew Gum

So let’s say you’ve stuffed yourself full because you’re so bored, but eating is the only interesting thing to do. Easy solution: chew gum. Right now I have a total of 47 sticks of gum in my bedroom. *heart eyes* I love it!

  • Take Pictures

Take your camera into your back yard and photograph the beauty of spring; the budding trees, the flowers and all of the grass that needs to be mowed. Another fun thing to do is to dress your siblings up in fancy clothes and do a mini-photo shoot with them.

  • Read Old Journals

Curl up in bed, grab your journal and read about life in the good ol’ days when you weren’t sentenced to remain in the confines of your home. 😎

  • Listen to Music

DSCF1312When all else fails, lay down on your bedroom floor and put on your playlist. (Click here to check out my playlist so far for 2020!)

  • Find New Music Artists

I don’t do this very often but my sister is an expert at it. 😉 I recently discovered that I really like music by Audrey Assad, The Brilliance and Sleeping At Last. *heart eyes* Music is a definite cure for boredom. (For a while anyway….)

  • Bake/Cook

Again with the whole bored eating thing. XD Baking is a great activity. Put on music or an audio and bake a treat for your family or help your mom out by making a meal. 😉

  • Clean Your House

If you have bored, younger siblings, they are bound to be making a mess everywhere (believe me, I know this all too well). Go clean something! Not only does this improve your quality of life (and helps your parents out) cleaning is very rewarding. Wash windows. Vacuum. Scrub the floors. Clean the toilets and showers.

  • Read Books (and buy new ones)

DSCF1315Books are a lifesaver.  This is a perfect time to get out that book that you’ve always wanted to read. Sit down in front of the fireplace and get lost in the world of dragons, knights and happily-ever-afters. (…okay, if it’s me, I most likely will be reading books like I Can Only Image or The Prince Warriors or I Still Believe or any books by Annie Downs. *heart eyes* Teen girls, I encourage you to check out her books. They’re really encouraging and sooo funny. XD)

Another fun thing is buying new books. I’ve been doing this a lot lately. There is something amazing about getting a new book and discovering a whole new world!!!!

  • Do Crafts

This is a perfect time to put together a scrap book or work on a knitting project. Learn a new skill! Crafts definitely help pass the time.

  • Put Together a Photo Album

Look through your old pictures and create a photo album. This is SO much fun! I looove looking through old pictures and laughing over the old times! (I did that on my birthday post and went way over bored with pictures ‘cause it was so much fun! XD)

  • Exercise

This is necessary if you take my advice and eat a bunch. XD Chase your siblings in your back yard. Do pushups. Jump rope.

  • Making Goofy Videos

Grab a camera and a sibling and goof off! (And if you’re a friend of mine, send to me! 😉😊)

  • Color

DSCF1308Grab that coloring book and those colored pencils/markers/crayons/pens and color away!

  • Embroider

This is really fun. I’ve enjoyed embroidery over the years. You can find cheap kits at craft stores or online that have everything you need to do simple embroidery projects.

  • Grab a Fun Drink

Brew a cup of coffee. Or tea. Grab a bottle of kombucha. Make a nice mug of hot coco.

  • Practice a Subject You Want to Improve

When you have lots of time on your hands, what better way to spend it than practicing something? We all have things that we need to practice. Maybe it’s memorizing a passage of Scripture. Or learning a speech for school.

  • Costume Party

When we were little, we all had so much fun dressing up and pretending to be different things. Why not do that now? Rediscover Kid You. 🙃

  • Short Through Your Closet

DSCF1318Try on all of the clothes that you own and get rid of a bunch that don’t fit you anymore or (if you’re like me) are worn bare and need to be tossed.

  • Dance Party

Put on happy music and dance away! 😉 💃 🎶🎵

  • Watch Movies

There are so many movies out there. (If you’re looking for some good movies, check out my 2020 Movie Guide!)  This is a great time to make a huge bowl of popcorn, grab some tea and have a movie marathon. (We did that during the Christmas season. It was literally a whole day of watching movies. By the end of it we were all walking around like zombies. XD) After you exhaust all of the interesting individual movies, you can always watch different series. Anybody like Call the Midwife? GREEEAT for killing time! (And they are really well done!!!) Also, Nailed It is HILARIOUS.

  • Blog

If you have a blog, flood it with posts. Since everyone is so bored, no one will mind having extra to read from you. XD Ask other bloggers to guest post on your blog. Ask friends to email you a post.

If you don’t have a blog, start one toady! I would highly recommend using WordPress. They make starting a blog super easy. (A plus is that you can spend as little or as much money as you want and still have an amazing blog!)

  • Play With Toys

Hey, listen all of you Very Mature People out there. No one is ever too old to play with toys. Get out those lego sets and build a world.

  • Organize Your Desk

DSCF1316*coughs* I need to do this. I was so happy about getting this stationary desk, but I haven’t kept it organized like I should have.

  • Make Paper Dolls

I used to make paper dolls all of the time. (And some of them were weeeeird looking). It’s fun and after you’re done, you can give them to your little siblings. 😉

  • Sleep

Stay up late and sleep in late. 🥱😴 😂That’s my motto. I mean, if there’s nothing else to do, why get up early? XD

  • Research a Subject You’re Passionate About

RESEARCHING IS THE BEEEEST! While I was taking an oceanography class, I had to do a lot of research on coral and sea creatures so that I could write papers on them. I so enjoyed that part! If there is a subject that you are passionate about, go and research it! Learn as much as you can and fill your brain with neat facts!

(I would recommend not over-researching the covoravirus….it’ll likely only scare you more).

You need more ideas? Kaley came up with a few as well!

  • Try a writing prompt
  • Make a fun snack for you and someone else, like ants on a log
  • Make a journal. One day, this will be history, and your story, if cataloged, could be a bestselling book of the time.
  • Try dancing and singing along to a random song someone chooses.
  • Paint or draw
  • Ask someone how their day REALLY went. And listen. Life is crazy. Plans are canceled. We need each other to deal with the anger, pain and frustration.
  • Do something you normally would never do.

Enjoy this time, guys. It won’t last forever. Enjoy the respite from the business of life. Rest and relax. Stay safe and try not to panic. And stay un-bored. 😉 😁🍦

  1. Thanks for the ideas!!! Thinking of sharing some of mine as well with friends. I’ve really enjoyed finding lists like this. This whole thing has been hard for an extroverted girl like me. Can’t go anywhere and can’t see anyone. Always looking to find new things to keep me busy and keep a smile on my face!!

    1. You’re welcome. ❤ Yeah, I can't imagine how hard this has been for extroverts! I'm an introvert, so I'm not bothered as much, but it's gotta be really hard for you! *hugs*

      1. Yeah, I had a really stinky attitude about it at first. I kept saying things like, “This stinks!” or “I’m gonna die!” or “This coronavirus may not get me, but it’ll still kill me.” I was discouraged and disappointed. But with the Lord’s help (and some boosts from family), I’m keeping a smile on my face and having fun! Yeah, like, the rest of my family are introverts (or along those lines), so I don’t think they really get how it’s like for us extroverts. But they’re keeping me laughing. My saying right now is, “Just keep on dancing, y’all!” We can get through this dancing and having fun.

          1. There you go! That’s what we need to be doing. Using our free time right now to do good and encourage others. And maybe clean out that closet too . . .

                  1. I share a not-so-big closet in a really-not-so-big room with three sisters. Our closet, dresser drawers . . . the entire room always seems to need to be cleaned. Hey, Hattush! Maybe you should do a cleaning motivation or cleaning bedroom tips post!! (laughs)

                    1. Ooh wow. I only share a room with two sisters and it’s huge but it always seems to be dirty, too. XD Why is that?
Haha, I should! Although Jehosheba is normally the one who cleans it, so she may be better at that. XD

                    2. The combination between organized girls and not so organized girls. Also being super busy (and maybe a tad bit lazy???), and having a lot to get done. (shrugs) Hmm . . . I sense a guest post coming on.

  2. Super job of listing tons of diverse ideas, Hattush!

One tgat jumped out for me was to make a game. Too bad you were moving to TN at the time and missed the Christmas version of Jeopardy that Cousins Jake and Taylor made for the big screen in the lower solarium. It was hilarious, brilliant, competitive yet bonding for all.

    May I add another idea!

Propagate your favorite house plants or plant seeds. We have basil seeds that should be planted today. And its not too early to start peppers and tomatoes.

Keep up the great thinking and writing Dahlin’ Granddaughter!

    Love G’pa

    1. Thanks, Grandpa! 🙂
Aww, man! I wish we could have been there! That sounds like so much fun! *sobs* We missed you all sooo much during the Christmas season!
Yeah, that’s another good idea I didn’t think of! 🙂 I recently planted succulent seeds, so we’ll see if they grow or not. I don’t exactly have an amazing track record with growing things from seed….
      Miss ya!

  3. This is a good post, Hattush! 😊These are great ideas for those who are bored out of their wits because they can go anywhere! 😄I definitely need to organize MY desk. It’s…🤔quite a mess.😬

      1. Usually I’ll hop on the computer (not literally, obviously 🤣), or read a book (reading is my FAVORITE hobby {that’s one thing I can pick a favorite on, for sure!}–as long as I’m reading an interesting book). 😁

          1. I like reading missionary biographies, mainly. I enjoy reading books from the Christian Heroes: Then and Now by Janet and Geoff Benge. There are also many other books from different series that I’ve read and enjoyed. I especially enjoy books with dialogue in them, you know, not just boring facts 😆, and, as I said at the beginning, biographies.
