Random Life Update: May 2023

Hey everyone! This update is horribly late. I’ve been procrastinating on it. XD

May was quite a month! As you know, we left Utah on the 5th. It was an extremely fast move. Getting the truck packed up wasn’t fun, but hey, I was at work for most of it. XD My siblings were very unhappy. XD

Leaving work was depressing. I honestly…I was really shocked by my coworkers crying over me leaving. I just…I never thought that anyone would like me enough to be sad that I was gone. To know that I meant something to normal(ish) people was heart-melting. ❤ I’m so thankful for my time at Danville and for everything I learned there.

I’d been dreading my last day of work. I was afraid I’d be a complete and total mess, but thankfully I wasn’t. It was a great day and I got to spend a lot of time with all of the girls. It was awful saying goodbye to them all as I put them to bed. It was especially hard saying goodbye to everyone’s unofficial favorite, Raquel. I knew that she didn’t understand I was leaving and that she’d be asking where I was for months. *tears* 😭

When I started working, I didn’t think I’d fit in there at all. I was still the quietest, weirdest person working. But somehow I became part of the family. I’m so thankful. ❤

Anyway!

We left Utah on the 5th and spend four days driving to Florida. It was exhausting!! We had fish, guinea pigs, and the gliders. We stopped in KC and got to see our friends the Chavers as well as Grandpa and Grandma! ❤💕

We also got to spend a couple hours in Marietta, GA. I can’t tell you how weird it was to be back in a place that we lived in. We walked around the square, visited our favorite coffee shop and ate a lot of delicious treats. 😉

Traveling!

I was so happy to finally get to Florida. We planned to stay in an Airbnb for a week while we looked for a rental house. We thought that it would only be a couple weeks before we were in a permanent house. WRONG! It ended up being almost a month. We stayed in four different houses. The first was filled with cockroaches and animal hair, but at least it had a swimming pool and a foose ball table.

The second house was in a sketchy neighborhood but very nice inside. The rooms were so aesthetic and so cozy. Also, the water tasted like bad breath and there was no filter. 🤮

The third house was in a bad neighborhood AND disgusting on the inside. We’re pretty sure that the sheets hadn’t been washed between guests. *gags* There were footprints on all of the walls by the beds and lots of dirt everywhere.

The first Airbnb was amaaaazing! It was a HUGE two-story house with four bedrooms and large family rooms. I was so happy to not have to share a room with my sisters anymore. (No offense, I love them but I also love my personal space. XD) It also had a little shed in the back that had A/C where we put the pets. It was weird not having them in the house.

Daddy didn’t have to be at work for the first couple weeks, so we had a lot of fun. We took several day trips. Mother’s Day weekend we went to St. Augustine and spent the day touring the historic/touristy area of the town. We ate at a delicious little Polish restaurant. Jehosheba and I got some pierogi to split. They were so good and reminded me so much of our trip to Krakow.

Mother’s Day we went to church and then headed downtown Jacksonville. We visited a huge candy store in an old historic house and spent $50 on little bags of candy for everyone. Coffee and books made a lovely afternoon. ❤

Hektor, my beautiful caramel baby, arrived early in the month! I attempted introductions between him and the other gliders a few days later. I expected Ilona to go crazy and tear the little man to pieces. But it went shockingly well. They all just sniffed each other and then curled up in their pouch and went to sleep. There were a few spats that night but all in all, it went amazingly well. I’m so thankful! All four are happy and living peacefully together.

Aren’t my babies beautiful?

Memorial Day weekend. And a VERY loud Jazz festival. 😊
Memorial Day spent in Savannah, GA

Daddy and Jehosheba started working near the end of May. It was SO strange to not have Jehosheba at home. I started work about a week later. It has been really interesting seeing how the showers are remodeled and how they can go from hideous to beautiful in such a short time. It has been such a different job than my last one, but I’ve really been enjoying it! (Also thank you to Daddy who has been putting up with my cluelessness and teaching me!)

We moved into our house at the very beginning of June. I was so happy that all the house hunting (so boring and so long) was done and that the wait was over! It was so good to step into the house and know that it was ours (for this year at least) and to be out of temporary housing.

We moved in on a Thursday. Friday the massive moving truck came. Everyone worked very hard all day and got stuff out of the truck and into the garage/the various rooms. We got about 2/3 of it done and finished the last on Saturday. I always forget how hard it is to move everything and how miserable dragging heavy furniture up and down stairs is. XD We also have about a million book boxes. HEAVYYYYYY!

I love my new room. The last one was in the basement and I didn’t realize how depressing and dark it was until comparing it to my new room. I got everything unpacked and my room feels like a little sanctuary. I love it so much!

Our neighborhood is lovely. So much quieter than where we lived in Utah. There is a lot of wildlife. Frogs, squirrels, rabbits, heron, bats, woodpeckers, a scorpion, cockroaches, fire ants and yes, even an alligator in one of the ponds near our house! We have a swamp in our backyard. The boys are very eager to go exploring.

All in all, May was a crazy, amazing month. I’m so thankful to be here in Florida and starting to get settled in!

    1. Thanks! I am really enjoying Florida. I didn’t think I would because I’m not a fan of the beach, but there is so much more than just beaches. It is so beautiful here and I love the wildlife!
