It is always fun to see the stats for my music consumption over the past year. I’m usually surprised and go away with a lingering suspicion that the stats aren’t 100% accurate. But no matter, it’s fun all the same.

Let me say here that, yes, thirteen days of music is quite impressive. However, unlike some of my family members, I rarely if ever sit and enjoy music by itself. For me, music is a pleasant thing to have in the background while I’m writing, working on assignments, cleaning, or as an upbeat soundtrack for road trips.

That these genres are my most listened-to isn’t terribly surprising, though I’m struggling to remember which songs would be classified in which genre. I believe that Jamie Soles is considered a children’s artist, which would explain why kids’ music is one of my top five genres.

It’s not just my siblings who say I’m ancient! Even Spotify thinks I’m sixteen years older than I am.

According to Spotify, I listened to 969 songs over the past year, but it’s no surprise that my top song would be “Let Me Rise” by Jamie Soles. It’s a really good reflection on Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and is always encouraging.

The top five songs aren’t terribly surprising, though I’m not convinced that #2 is correct. As much as I love “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day”, there were songs that I listened to more frequently than that one.

It’s not a surprise that River was my top album! I grew up listening to Jamie Soles. Childhood fondness has grown into appreciation and respect for the artist. Much of what Jamie Soles and his family sings is just Scripture set to music – both Old Testament and New Testament. Can I just say that a couple of his songs have been invaluable as exam helps in my Old Testament survey class?

Ah yes, the good ol’ top albums. Two of them are Jamie Soles, which was to be expected. Nathan Clark George was also an artist that I grew up listening to and have continued to enjoy – partially for nostalgia’s sake, but also because a lot of the songs teach good, biblical truths. I like the Requiem album – especially when I’m writing something tragic. I also really enjoy the David soundtrack from Sight & Sound Theatres.

Twenty-two hours of podcasts? I don’t enjoy podcasts a lot in general, so I’m kind of surprised that I had almost a whole day of listening to them.

I’m a top 10% fan, wahoo! I usually listen to this on those nights when it’s 3am and I have yet to get a wink of sleep. There’s something soothing about John Piper’s voice… I also appreciate his short, concise answers to some pretty difficult questions.

Considering that I only listened to two or three of VOMRadio’s episodes and yet somehow they made it onto my top five list…you can see how often I listen to podcasts. Life at the Pond was for my siblings, not myself, haha. I’m not shocked that The Ben Shapiro Show is second. I used to spend tons of time listening to political podcasts, but this year I just haven’t taken much of an interest in it and preferred to use my time in other ways. But I did listen to a few of Ben Shapiro’s thoughts on various events over the past year. For the Becket Cook Show… I read his book, loved it, hoped his podcast would be similar, and was sadly disappointed.

No surprise here. I love all these artists! The Harrow Family is yet another group that I grew up listening to. They set Scripture to beautiful music. Forever Be Sure is similar – while their words aren’t straight Scripture, they do have a lot of songs based on portions of the Bible, and their music is generally encouraging.

Ah, a day full of Jamie Soles. What could be better?

I’m also trying to remember what happened on October 5th and why I had so much time to listen to music…I’m pretty sure I had it on in the background, went to do something, and forgot that it was still playing… All good songs, though! I absolutely love Gorecki, and his heartbreaking Symphony No. 3.

Oh yes, I remember October 2nd. I was preparing for a dreadful exam in my music appreciation class and spent a while that morning listening to music podcasts in hope that the musical terms would finally make sense.
If you’re looking for encouraging, fun Christian artists, I recommend Jamie Soles, The Harrow Family, Nathan Clark George, Forever Be Sure, Clamavi De Profundis (which sadly didn’t make onto Spotify’s Wrapped but who I love!), Judy Rogers, Matt Papa & Ross King (the album Every Last Word), and Sight & Sound Theatres. Honorable mention to Daniel Craig, Liturgical Folks, Seraphim Bit-Kharibi, and The West Girls.

What Christian artists do you enjoy? What was your top genre this year? Top artists? Have you enjoyed any of the artists that I shared here?
You are the reason that my mom got hooked on Forever Be Sure’s Where Would We Go. I loved it first, but she loved it harder 😂
I don’t have Spotify so this isn’t accurate but… I’ve been listening to a lot of Benjamin William Hastings this year. Especially Seasons and So Will I 🥰 His lyrics are just so amazing 😭
I also enjoyed some Claire Leslie, Josh Garrels, and Half Alive’s latest album 😆 I have probably listened to the acoustic version of Automatic on loop more than any human should 😅 Idk why but it always feels like its my first listen every single time 😂

That makes me so happy. 😊 It’s such a great song!!
Oh cool, I’ll have to listen to those songs by Benjamin William Hastings. I love songs that have special lyrics!
Ahh, don’t you just love songs that are like that? No matter hoe many times you play them, they still feel new and wonderful and powerful? ☺️😌

We listen on Apple Music, not Spotify, and I have no idea whether or not it provides you with stats. I’ll have to ask my OH.
