Hello everyone! It’s been far too long. I’ve been quite busy the past few months and am working on a post explaining all the various things that have happened. Let’s just say that we moved to Iowa in June, and now we’re getting ready to move to Georgia. Today, however, I will be sharing some surprising benefits of head covering.

If you’ve seen pictures of Jehosheba or I recently, you’ll notice that we’ve been keeping our heads covered. I’m working on another post explaining all the reasons why and how we came to that conclusion, but for now I thought I’d just do a fun post with random things that I’ve noticed. We’ve been covering for almost six months, and I’ve been surprised by the impact that it has had on me.
Jehosheba and I have different styles that we enjoy. I’ve mainly chosen scarves that completely cover my hair, and Jehosheba has gone with snoods, the kerchief style, and thick headbands, so our experiences are different.
Without further ado, in order of least importance to greatest, here are ten reasons why head covering is great. 😉
#1: No More Hair Blowing in Your Face
I walk a lot, and it was always annoying to be half blinded by hair blowing in my eyes and getting stuck in my teeth. No more! My scarves completely secure my hair, and I can walk free and clear. Of course, if the wind is too strong, there is always the danger of the scarf blowing away. XD
#2: Hair Gets Darker
Some people say that their hair got significantly darker once it was protected from the sun. I haven’t seen this yet, but I like to think that my hair will one day be a thick, wavy, luxurious black. Hey, if Anne’s hair could change from orange to auburn, mine can change from brown to black, right?
#3: Lots of Styles

As someone who never really cared about doing my hair, it’s been fun to have different styles with different scarves. Head coverings are so much fun to experiment with.
#4: No Sopping Hair, No Sunburnt Scalp
We lived in Florida for a year. The sun was very strong and there were many sudden downpours. My scalp sunburnt through my (very thin) hair. Wrapping eliminated that problem. If it rains, my hair is protected, and I can just change the scarf once I’m home. My scalp is also protected from frying in the sun. Sure, the scarves can be very, very hot, but I’ve found several that are of a breathable material, and they are excellent for summer.
#5: No More Greasy Hair

I’m not one of the people who adore showering. My hair gets greasy as soon as I step out of the shower. *sighs* Head coverings have been so nice because if I don’t have time to shower, I don’t have to walk around looking like I fell into a bowl of butter. Which leads to my next point…
#6: More Bad Hair Days
I have tragically thin hair, which worked well in a pixie cut, but doesn’t look nice any other way. My hair decided that it hates me and has continued to abandon my scalp. *cries* That was one of the reasons that I chose to do the full scarf wrap. My hideous hair is completely covered, and I don’t have to worry about it anymore. 🙂
#7: So Comfortable
Head coverings don’t have to be painful! I have found them very comfortable and soothing. A lot of people have experienced anxiety relief simply by having a “head hug”. Scarves are very soft and – if they are wrapped properly –comfortable and soothing. They can give a whole new level of confidence and courage.
#8: People Respect You

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like I’ve gotten a lot more respect from older people since I’ve started coving. I walk a lot, and most of the older men and women will give me big smiles and say hello – which didn’t happen as often before I covered. Or maybe I’m just working harder to be friendly to people while I’m out and about.
I want to honor the men around me by dressing in a modest way. Who says that a woman can’t be beautiful just because she doesn’t wear short, tight clothes? I don’t want to be wanted for my body, but for who I am.
#9: Womanhood
For thousands of years, women from all different cultures and countries have been covering their heads…up until the 1970’s when feminism came into full swing and women were “liberated”.
I cover my head for many reasons, but one of them is for the idea of traditional womanhood. People are so confused nowadays about gender and what it means to be a woman. I want to dress in a way that shows my femininity and my love for the traditional way of life.
#10: A Reminder of Who I Am

Not always, but a lot of people who cover their heads and dress modestly do so for religious reasons. Being dressed in a way that shows a part of your faith outwardly – that shows that you are not fitting in with modern culture – is an excellent reminder to live as a Christian should; to act in a way that honors God, to be a light in a more visible way. I’ve failed this plenty of times.
I’m part of an online wrapping group and one lady was talking about the responsibility that we have as women who cover. Our faith is visible, and we need to act in a way that shows who we serve and who we love.
Having my head covered reminds me that I am not in control of my life. God is my head, my covering, my guide, and how much peace is there in that! I cover for Him, for those in my life, and for myself. My scarves are a wonderful reminder to be respectful, submissive, kind, and to live in a way that honors Christ – all things that I struggle with every day!
In Numbers, God commands the Israelites to make tassels on the corners of their clothes so that when they saw them, they would remember the law and how they were to live. Head coverings act in much the same way for me. When I see them, and feel them on my head, I remember.

I know that head covering is a very controversial subject, so I’d love to have your opinions on this post whether you agree or disagree! Let’s chat. If you cover your head, what surprising benefits have you found?
I’ve been praying about wearing some form of head covering in at least some circumstances, so this was interesting to read. I’m not sure the Lord is leading me that way yet, but I’m still praying 🙂

if I’m in a country where women cover their heads, then I do. As a youngster, all women covered their heads in church too. I think it is often very practical outdoors.

I’m very late to this post, but I agree to all of what you said! I started covering early last year, and it was one of the best decisions I made for various reasons. I would love to hear more from you about this and how you do your head coverings!

Ahh I’m so happy to hear it, Lilly! It’s so neat to see the difference that head covering brings into life! I’d love to hear more of your story! 🙃
As far as how I do the coverings, I learned from Wrapunzel on YouTube. 😆 They have a TON of tutorials for beginners and experts. They make it really easy! I also got most of my scarves from their website. 🙃 Pretty affordable and very good quality.

I might share it sometime! I’m trying to redo my blog a bit and change some things, so we’ll see how fast that happens.
And thank you! I will have to check it out on YouTube!

Haha, most people have been tagged already it seems! 🤣 I am really looking forward to reading it! ❤ You could also just leave it open if you can’t find people that haven’t been tagged yet.
