MASSIVE BOOK HAUL June 2023

I’m back with yet another book haul! It’s been a few months since I’ve done one of these and thought it was about time. A couple weeks ago, Mama wanted to go to a library bookstore sale to try to find some books for Jehosheba’s birthday. I didn’t have high hopes and thought maybe I’d find one or two books that I’d like.

I was in for a surprise!

The store was massive. They were constantly restocking the shelves. And the best part – the books were CHEAPPPPPP. $2 for hardcovers and $1 for paperbacks. AHHHHHH. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was. I was even more excited to see several classics shelves and a huge biography/autobiography/memoir section. We spent an hour there (would have stayed longer but they closed, lol) and I bought 13 books for only $22!! EEEP! I would now like to share with you my babies. ❤

Classics

The Swiss Family Robinson

I got this one for Jehosheba because she recently mentioned that she wants to read it. I’m not sure if she’ll like it or not, but at least she won’t have an excuse for not reading it. XD

War & Peace

This was for me. I will probably never read it. Jehosheba did this year and said that it was incredibly boring and pointless with a whole bunch of unlikeable characters. XD But it was cheap, a fairly nice copy and it’ll look great on my shelf. XD If I put it next to all the other big classics that I HAVE read (Don Quixote, Les Miserables, Count of Monte Cristo) then maybe people will just assume I’ve read that one, too. XD

Sense and Sensibility

This was also for Jehosheba. I dislike Jane Austin’s books. Granted, I’ve only read Pride and Prejudice, but I read it twice and hated it both times. I’m just not a fan of reading pointless romances. I’d rather spend my time on other books. But this was a nice copy and I’m hoping that J ends up enjoying Jane Austin.

The Scarlet Pimpernel

For Jehosheba. This looks like a funny story. XD

A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court by Mark Twain

I read this book on our Europe vacation. It had me laughing the whole time. I had no idea Mark Twain wrote time-traveling stuff and the whole book was so slapstick and funny. I was happy to see this nice, illustrated hardcover edition. ONLY TWO DOLLARS!

To Kill A Mockingbird

I *coughs* already have To Kill a Mockingbird. But this was such a nice copy, I just had to get it.

WW2

Night by Elie Wiesel

This one has been on my list for a while, so I was excited to see it for only a dollar.

Stalin’s Daughter by Rosemary Sullivan

This one looked incredibly interesting.

In the Garden of the Beasts

As did this one.

Memoirs

Mistaken Identity by Van Ryn, Cerak, & Tabb

I started listening to this book on Scribd a while ago, but abandoned it for a different one. XD However, when I saw this super nice copy at the sale, I thought I might as well get it. 🙂

End of the Spear by Steve Saint

I love this book!! My parents gave it to me for my eleventh birthday. I read it and fell in love with the story. Over the years I’ve had two copies, both of which I gave away (I can’t remember who to, lol). I’m happy to have a new copy!

Hiding in the Light

I have this one on Kindle but I thought I’d get a real copy of it as it is one that I have enjoyed re-reading several times. 🙂

I also got an ASL sign language dictionary because I’m going to start learning soon.

Have you read any of these books? Favorites? What genre do you enjoy? Have you been to a library bookstore sale?

  1. War and Peace: Boring? At times. Pointless? Sometimes it feels like it. Filled with unlikeable characters? Well, yes, but there are also some likeable ones! There are at least four I absolutely love, although it took me a while to warm up to them. I can see why you’d think that, BUT I promise Tolstoy is better than his reputation claims.
