About Hattush

Heya! Welcome to my itty bitty corner of the internet! You’ve clicked the little About Hattush button, so you’re interested in learning more about mwah. You’ll get a glimpse into the life, heart, and weirdness of the girl who runs this Daughter of the Light.

My name is Hattush.

I’m a young woman who seeks to serve Christ in my everyday life. I believe strongly in hope. It never dies, no matter how dark the world is. Christ is our ultimate source of Hope and Life.

I graduated high school in 2021 and am trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. I know God has called me to work with people and to share hope. Perhaps through a medical field, perhaps as a missionary, we shall see.

I love to write both fiction and non-fiction. I hope to publish a sugar glider care guide eventually. If you’re interested in supporting me there, you can sign up for my email list here.

I am a very introverted person who may or may not be terrified of crowds, video chats, and talking to anyone I don’t know. I am, however, working very hard to overcome that. I feel that God has given me a calling to speak through my words and not only in written form.

I am a wanderer! I’ve had seventeen major moves in the course of my life and have lived in nine states (and twenty-one houses, haha). For a year, we lived at a Christian camp. Another year we had a hobby farm. We’ve lived in lots of different situations, and I love talking about them. 😉 If you want to hear more, drop me a comment below! I am currently living in Florida.

I absolutely love to travel and have been to thirty-nine states so far. I hope to visit all fifty before I turn twenty-five. In September 2022, my family and I took a trip across Eastern Europe and visited eight different countries there. It was incredible.

Reading is a huge hobby. You’ll find many reviews on this blog. I read many different genres – pretty much anything but romance or horror. My favorite fiction books are The Brothers Karavazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, Ben Hur by Lew Wallace, The Man Who Was Thursday, The Iliad, The Odyssey, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and many, many others! I have a whole host of other autobiographies that I love! God’s Smuggler, the Hiding Place, The Waiting, and many, many others. Ask me and I’ll dump a huge list on you.

I own seven beautiful sugar gliders. My first colony includes Ink, Ilona, Yiska, and Hektor. My second (breeding) colony includes sisters Orual and Istra and their husband, Bardia. If you are interested in purchasing joeys from me (or just want to see adorable baby pictures!), please visit my website Pouch Babies Sugar Gliders.

Other hobbies include baking/cooking, painting (watercolor), photography, hiking, running, and caring for my five siblings. ❤

I’ve struggled with depression, self-harm, anxiety, suicidal ideation, anger, and disordered eating . I also have a suspicion that I am autistic and am learning more about autism and how it displays itself in women.

If you struggle with a mental illness, I am here to be a listening ear. ❤ We need each other and can’t survive alone.

Strong beliefs that I have

  • I believe that every life is precious in the sight of God and that there should be no discrimination between people based on the color of skin, age, or ethnicity. We are all family – brothers and sisters – who have equal value and equal rights.
  • I also believe that God made two genders and that they are hardwired into our very cells. We can’t and shouldn’t try to change that. I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman alone.
  • Depression, anxiety and mental illnesses are often avoided by the church because, honestly, there are no easy answers to those things. BUT people who are dealing with mental illness desperately need people to surround them and to help them stay afloat. The church should help carry that burden and be a support.

My heroes

Marjorie Thomas

Marjorie isn’t someone that most people will ever know, but she has made a huge impact on my life. Her constant encouragement, her kind words and her strong faith helped to bring me through a very hard year. God used her influence to save my life when I was ready to give up. She had the best smile and when she came into the room, it was like God’s presence came with her. I love you, Marjorie, and look forward to seeing you again soon.

The Girl Who Didn’t Believe In Heroes

John G. Paton

John G. Paton Author Biography | Banner of Truth USA

If I die here in Glasgow, I shall be eaten by worms; If I can but live and die serving the Lord Jesus, it will make no difference to me whether I am eaten by cannibals or by worms; for in the Great Day my resurrection body will arise as fair as yours in the likeness of our risen Redeemer.

John Paton was born in Scotland and became a missionary to the New Hebrides Islands among cannibals there. His devotion to his work and his dedication even in the face of immense hardship is so inspiring. I’ve admired him ever since I was old enough to understand what he had written in his autobiography. (You seriously have to read it. It is deep, hilarious and amazing.)

Samuel Morris

Samuel Kaboo Morris - Wikipedia

Religion has its joys and crosses; you love joys but you draw back from crosses. However, you must take both of them to become strong, healthy Christian.

Samuel Morris was a Liberian prince who became a Christian and went to the US to gain an education there. His short life is amazing and such a powerful testimony.

Mary Slessor

Mary Slessor - Wikipedia

Christ never was in a hurry. There was no rushing forward, no anticipating, no fretting over what might be. Each day’s duties were done as each day brought them, and the rest was left with God.

Mary Slessor was a Scottish missionary who served in Nigeria. She protected twins, who were often killed because they were seen as cursed. She had a bold personality and a ton of determination.

Charles Spurgeon

C.H. Spurgeon | English minister | Britannica

A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.

Charles Spurgeon was a Baptist preacher. He wrote commentaries, books on prayer, devotional, poetry, hymns and sermons. I have been so encouraged by his writings

  8. Hattush, I just found your blog and I love it! ❤ It is true, and sad, that most churches avoid the topics of depression and anxiety and self-hatred and many times they either avoid it or they tell the person struggling that they just don't have enough faith. I look forward to reading your posts! 😀 ❤

    1. Yes. It breaks my heart when people tell someone struggling and then they are told, “You don’t have enough faith” or “you’re not a good Christian because you can’t get past the darkness”. There were many people in the bible struggled with depression!

  9. Hi, Hattush! I just found your blog and I have to say that your “random weird facts” are really interesting to read. I absolutely agree with your belief about teens. I think the stereotypes about teens sometimes prevent us from having the opportunity to be taken seriously. It’s nice to meet you! (:

Sugar gliders are AWESOME. Yep, they can be kept as pets. Their diet is pretty complex. There are several different diet plans that they can be on, but it ends up being fruits, vegetables, protein and vitamins. 🙂 I have a whole side blog talking about them, lol.

I’m also an Enneagram 4… not an extreme introvert, but pretty close…. have you ever taken the Myers-Briggs 16 personality test?
I’m also homeschooled, and I totally agree with you about that whole part of depression and anxiety and also many teens DO turn to alcohol/drugs because of not being understood.
Sorry I’m leaving such a long comment on here… but seriously girl, your content is amazing and I can’t wait to read more of your posts!

YES. Teen voices are often silenced and put down and we’re looked down upon because of our age. It’s not right and I want to do something to change that!

Ah cool!! What types of things do you like to write? Yeah, I totally get that. Music and writing are great escapes. Do you have any favorite music artists?
My main hobbies are writing and reading. And running. I love running!

              Like

              1. Oooh… no I haven’t read that one yet, I’ll have to see if I can get it somewhere because I love reading books about that type of stuff!

I write fantasy fiction mostly…. my two main novels I’m working on are both fantasy fiction… and I also write short stories… some fantasy, some not, all dark…. I dunno, even my novels tend towards the dark side… not HORROR exactly, but yeah.

What do you write? *yes I am aware that Im PRETTY sure I could go up and read all of your stories… indeed I read most of the ‘short stories’, and really enjoyed them (your writing is so good!)… especially Marks of Hope,* but I was wondering what you would classify them as lol… like any particular genre/type?

Well I’ll listen to pretty much anything, but I do especially enjoy Queen, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Journey, Garth Brooks, and Simon and Garfunkel… all old music, yes… but I personally prefer old music! What about you? What type of music do you like?

Writing and reading is amazing isnt it? Oooh running! That’s so cool and fun! Personally, I have very flexible ankles, so I tend to not be able to run for very long, but every now and then I just hafta go out to our treadmill and just RUN and not think and yeah 🙂

                Liked by 1 person

                1. You should read it! It’s an awesome book!

Ah cool! I write mainly fantasy fiction as well. I don’t know what genre my short stories are classified in. LOL. That’s cool that you’re stories are dark. I write a lot of dark stuff, too. It just seems so much deeper and more real than all the happy, bouncy books that are out there.

That’s awesome! I haven’t listened to much old music, but I want to explore it more. I like…sad music. Haha. It drives my sister crazy. I like Josh Garrels, Sleeping At Last (they have a whole ablum of songs for each enneagram type), Plumb, NF, The Brillance.

Yeees! Writing & reading is the best! What genre do you read in?

                  Like

                  1. Oooh I will try to!!

Ahhh that’s so cool :). Yes, same, exactly. The world is a bit… darker than a lot of books portray it as, and dark is definitely more real! And also raises more deep questions that will leave the reader pondering afterwards, at least readers like me!

Oooh yes! Old music is fun…. I actually grew up (well as a younger kid, that is) listening mostly to old Irish folk tunes, classical music, and movie themes… and progressing to pretty much any genre! I don’t think I’ve heard songs by most of those artists but I’ll have to check them out! I have heard a couple songs by Plumb tho.

I will read almost any genre… my favorite is fantasy, but I also like scifi, realistic fiction, even non-fiction. I do tend to stay clear of stories that are ONLY romance, or hard horror… I enjoy reading dark/horror, but not stories that are solely horror cuz they tend to have themes I don’t agree with.
What about you? What genres/books do you enjoy reading?

                    Liked by 1 person

                    1. Yeah, it definintly is. Deep questions are THE BEST. I love darker books that have them! There’s so much more depth in sad/hard stories as opposed to happy bouncy ones.

Ah cool! I love Irish music and I listen to classical when I study or write. 🙂

Ooooh same. I mainly read fantasy and I avoid stories that only have romance. 🙂 I love autobiographies, Greek tradgeties and health books. 🙂 What are some of your favorite books?

                      Like

                    2. Yessss, exactlyyy! and totally, sad/hard stories contain WAY more depth that happy, bouncy ones.

Ooh you doooo? That’s great, and yea classical can help me study too!

Fantasy is amazing isn’t it? And yea stories that only have romance tend to be cliche imo, and sometimes contain scenes I don’t appreciate so I just skip out on ’em all together mostly. Ooooh Greek tragediessss COOOOOLLLLL!!
Some of my fave books are Keeper of the Lost Cities, Percy Jackson, LOTR, Chronicles of Narnia, Ranger’s Apprentice, Eragon…. lol that’s a lot, sry, I read a lot. What about you?

What are your favorite things to study?

Yeah, I totally agree with all you said about the romance stories. I don’t mind if a story has some romance in it and it adds to the story, but most of the time it’s just pointless. YEEES, if you haven’t, you should totally read some Greek tragedies. They’re beautiful!

Ah coolness!!!! I wanna read the books that you mentioned!!! I LOVE LOTR!! It’s actually my favorite book series. Who are your favorite characters?

                      Like

                    4. I really enjoy studying history, actually, and also music theory/appreciation that type of stuff! What about you?

Yesss, exactly, most of the romance is contrived anyway, and if it’s a SOLELY romance novel, it’s completely pointless cuz I’d like to read an actual story with a plot and everything. Oooh yess! Which do you recommend? Im trying to think of some Greek plays, but the only ones that come to mind are Oedipus Rex and Clouds and I THINK both of those are comedies, but I’m not sure. If you like Greek tragedies… have you ever tried Shakespeare? Like ‘Hamlet’ or something?

YESS LOTRRR!! ooh really? I think it’s in my top 3 lol. My favorite characters are Frodo, Aragorn, and Faramir… and well, those are my favorites of the ones in the books that made it into the movies, but I also really like Elladan and Elrohir and Glorfindel! What about you? Who are your favorites? And have you seen the movies? 🙂

                    5. Oooh, I love history, too! What is your favorite time period.

Yeah, you are so right about stories with romance.
Yeah, Clouds is a comedy and I was NOT a fan of it. Some of the plays I recommend are:
Antigone (obviously), Libation Bearers, Trojan Women (this one was so beautifully sad), and The Fall of Troy. I also loved reading the Iliad, but it was long and took a lot of devotion to understand it. Haha.
I haven’t read Shakespeare yet, but I REALLY want it! He is on my to-be-read list for this year!

SO COOL. LOTR is AWESOME. Ahhh, those are such great characters!! My favorites are probably Frodo, Arwen, Merry, Aragorn and Éowyn. I also really liked Boromir.
My sister doesn’t like Frodo very much, but I…I guess I just relate to him in so many ways. He’s one of my favorites!
YEEES, I love the movies! What did you think of them?

                    6. Ooooh that’s a tough one… I really like ancient Roman history though and also modern, so like WWII and the Cold War and stuff like that. What about you?

Ooh reallyy? I haven’t read Clouds yet, but maybe I won’t then lol. Ooooh I’ll have to check those out!!! Yea, the Iliad is really long, I had to read it for school a couple years ago lol. If you’ve read it though, who is your favorite character from it?

Oooh coool, Shakespeare is pretty good except the insta-love, I blame Disney’s insta-love on him lol. (I dunno I don’t believe in love at first sight)

ooh cooool!!!!! Yess I love those characters as well…. Yea same exactly about Frodo! I actually used to dislike him, but I’m in the middle of rewatching LOTR for the I’m-not-sure-how-manyth-time, and each time I watch it I like Frodo more cuz… yea.

Oooh I like the movies as well, overall, but there were a few things that bugged me like substituting Arwen for Glorfindel, the elves at Helm’s Deep… that type of stuff. But overall they were soooo goooodddddd. The same unfortunately can’t be said imo for the Hobbit movies… have you seen those?

                    7. Oooh cool. History is so awesome! I really like Greek history. It’s so interesting! But I also like the discovery and founding of America.

Haha, same, I read the Iliad for school. I was kind of intimidated by the length of it when I started. 😂 My favorite character? I liked Patroclus and Andromache. And Hector. What about you?

Ooh, instant love? That’s sad that Shakespeare has that. Disney’s instant love connections drive me insane. XD What’s one of the worst “love at first sight” books/movies you’ve seen/read?

Aw, cool. I’m glad you’re liking Frodo more now. 🙂 Which of the movies is your favorite?

Yeeeah, I was so shocked about the Hobbit. I watched the movies first, and when I read the book I was like, “Whhhhat happened???!”
I love the book. It’s like one of the few that made me laugh out loud when I was reading it!

Oh for sure, the Iliad is extremely long!! I liked Achilles, Odysseus, and Patroclus LOL. And I supposed on the Trojan side Hector is great… I can’t STAND Paris though, he is 100% my least favorite character lol. Do you have a least favorite character in there?

Yea, only a couple of his plays do, like Romeo and Juliet (which btw is more a tragedy than a romance imo so). Yesss SAMEEE ahhhhh. Oooh, that’s a tough one. Twilight, for sure is the first one that comes to mind and Disney stuff like Cinderella, and the Les Miz movie. What about you?

oooh that’s a tough one. I absolutely love several sequences in Fellowship, Helm’s Deep is AWESOME, but I think I’d have to go with RoTK… Pelennor Fields, The Dead Army, and of course the triumphant ending! Which is your favorite?

I knowwww!! Oooh if you watched the movies first, yea, that would probably have been quite confusing. As I read the book first… they changed SO MUCH. What was your opinion on the whole Tauriel/Kili/Legolas love triangle?
                      Yesss the book is great!!

                    9. Yikes, I meant to write sooner! Sorry!

Yeah, Paris was awful. I’d have to agree that he’s my least favorite character. Have you read the Odyssey?

Oooh yes. Well, I haven’t actually watched many disney movies. XD I’m not a huge fan of them. There was one movie (I can’t remember who made it) called the Stolen Princess. It was SO stereotypical and so sappy. This girl literally spent three hours with this guy and then she ended up marrying him at the end. *shakes head*

Yeah! I’m sure it was a shock having read the book first! Ugh, I was not a fan of the love triangle. What did you think about it?

                      Like

                    10. Oh that’s totally okay!!

Yessss… he caused the entire war… he and Helen… I don’t like them. Their personal feelings and stuff killed thousands! SO I didn’t ACTUALLY read the entire Odyssey, but I did study the plot and some parts of it! Did you?

Oooff the Stolen Princess… I don’t think I’ve watched that one and I don’t think I want to either!! LOL

Yessssss…. heh. Um, well, apart from it being completely and utterly unrealistic when it came to Tolkien’s world, I didn’t really think the dialogue was great either! And in LOTR Legolas is CLEARLY single… they just wanted to ramp up box office viewings and stuff because ‘Orlando Bloom’ and tie-ins to the LOTR… just like Galadriel and Saruman and everything were in there too even though they didn’t need to be, cuz their plot line with the expelling of spirits from Dol Guldur happened 500 years before the Hobbit… not to mention Aragorn is 10 not 27 like Thranduil tries to imply and now Im sorry that was a very long rant and I barely even got started!!
(I do this a lot lol)
In the Hobbit movies though, who *are* your faves? 🙂

                    11. Yeah, it’s really sad. It’s a good reminder that our actions don’t only hurt ourselves, but they can hurt so many other people – innocent people.
Okay cool! Yes, I did read the Odyssey for school. It was really interesting.
Haha, I wouldn’t recommend the Stollen Princess. My brothers really like it for some reason. *shakes head* They’ve watched it several times. 😂
Yeeeeah. It’s really sad! Haha, ranting is something I do a lot, too. XD
Ooh that’s a hard one. I love Bilbo, of course. I also like Thorin and Gandalf. What about you?

        1. Bree, oh, ok 😆 It’s just the other day there was a girl who joined one of the groups I’m apart of, and her name is Bree.
But yes, I do use it, and it is very motivational and helpful in memorizing scripture 😄 There are even groups you can join (let me know if you ever want to join one, and I’ll direct you to a few 😉). They used to be pretty active, but sadly, a lot of the “older” generation has left or gone inactive as of late (SO sad! Cause there were a lot of great people on there 😥), and the “newer” generation is also inactive except for a few.
Sorry for pouring my woes on you; I don’t think you wanted to here all of that Xp
