Our Utah Vacation

Hello everyone! I hope that you had a lovely Labor Day and a lovely weekend. 🙂 Today I’m going to be sharing about our trip to Utah!

As I said in my last post, last month, we were considering a move to Utah. We decided to take a trip to Utah to scout out houses and to see if it would be a good place for us. We were going to drive, but it’s a long ways away. If we flew, the question was what to do with the pets. In the end, we found an awesome pet sitter who came every night and sent pictures of my babies. ❤ I was so relieved not to have to bring all six of my gliders on the trip (plus I would have to drag along two separate cages because they aren’t all introduced yet!)

(Also, I am sorry for the lack of photos. I brought my camera, but I didn’t use it as much as I wanted to)

Day One

We left for the airport late in the afternoon and didn’t fly out until after 7 PM. It was Nahum and Yoveil’s first flight, so that was fun. Jehosheba and I sat next to each other, but Yoveil was desperate to sit next to Jehosheba. She cried and cried and cried until we changed seats. XD When she calmed down, we swapped again.

The Salt Lake City airport was so nice and quiet – so much nice than the Atlanta one, lol. We were all very tired when we landed. We got our rental cars and headed to the airbnb.

For half of the trip, our airbnb was in a basement. It was nice and clean, but very small. There was one bedroom and one bathroom for eight people. The bedroom had four bunch beds. Nahum and Baruch were jealous that I was the only one who got my own personal bed. 🤣 You should have seen the line to the bathroom. It was hilarious. As soon as the doors opened up, another person would dash in and so on and so forth. XD

Day Two

It was Sunday. We all crawled out of beds and got dressed (which took forever with the one bathroom). We grabbed delicious donuts on the way to church. We got our first look at the mountains. You guys. I’m speechless. They are so beautiful. They are so grand and massive and bare and beautiful.

After church we stopped by Trader Joes and got a ton of food. It’s funny how much more you buy when you shop hungry. XD

After lunch, the parents took a long nap and the boys and J and I sat in the living room/dining room. I read a lot. Jehosheba worked on Diamond Dotz and the boys caused trouble. So annoying.

Eventually we all got back in the cars and drove around for a while. We walked around a bit and ended the day with hot fudge sundaes. 🙂

Day Three

Daddy had an interview with a company that morning. I made brownies and we watched a movie (about a mouse). After Daddy got back, we all walked around for an hour or so. I was so very happy not to have my walking boot anymore!

We returned the two rental cars and got a huge van. There were so many seats! Baruch was very pleased to be able to sit all alone without having anyone breathing on him. XD

We drove around different neighborhoods and looked at the outsides of potential houses until after 10:45.

Day Four

We went to Thanksgiving Point and visited a little mini farm there. It was a lot of fun. Especially watching the little kids. There were a ton of people there, though! We got to go on a wagon ride which was fun!

Yoveil and Dovid had a blast feeding the goats and chickens and other such animals. It was hilarious to watch the animal tongues licking their hands.

Dovid: The goat licked my hand

Me: Were you scared it was going to bite you?

Dovid: No. It was wet.

Me: Can I lick your hand? (Don’t ask why I said that, lol. I’m weird)

Dovid: NO!

Me: Why?

Dovid: You’re not a pet!

There was also a miniature donkey there! *SCREAM* I love donkeys so much!

We ate lunch at Kneaders. *licks lips* They had amazing bread and delicious soup! After we finished eating, we drove around and looked at more potential houses. I read. A lot. I finished Les Miserables. *cries* You guys, the ending is so sad!

We got pizza and truffles at Costco and ate while watching Peter Rabbit 2.

Day Five

We looked inside of a few houses. Well, I didn’t, but I sat in the van with some kids and read while Dovid and Yoveil followed the parents inside. Dovid was so cute. He so desperately wanted to get out of the van and go in with them. ❤

We stopped for an ice cream break. It was delicious. I love ice cream so much. Dovid decided that he wanted a lolly pop instead of a scoop of ice cream. *shrugs* His choice, I guess. He was very happy licking it while the rest of us were delighting in ours. XD

Day Six

Our back up move-to-place was Boise, Idaho. It wasn’t too far from Salt Lake, so we drove up there. We had to get up really early and I fell asleep for most of the drive, lol.

Boise was interesting. Definitely not as pretty as Salt Lake. But we had a good day. We ate brunch at an amazing Ethiopian restaurant. Then we – you guessed it – looked at potential houses. (In case you haven’t noticed by now, that was the main thing that we did on the trip, lol).

We walked around downtown for a while and I carried Yoveil almost the entire way (we had a stroller, but she refused to sit on it, lol).

After we had seen everything, we stopped by a little bookstore and the Dollar Store (I bought M&Ms which I was going to save for the plane ride home, but they somehow disappeared way before then). We got supper from Culver’s (+ mint chocolate ice cream!). It was really late by the time we got back to the airbnb.

Day Seven

We spent the morning looking at houses. Everyone was bored and hungry. I spent a lot of time reading. XD Lucky for me, J and I had got several new books before we left, so there was plenty to read.

Around 7:30 PM we got to our new airbnb. It was much bigger and nicer but it still only had one bathroom. XD (Much to the disappointment of everyone).

Mama made delicious spinach artichoke dip for supper and I made blondies for dessert. 🙂 We watched a Megamind short to close out the night.

Day Eight

We went to a cute little Famer’s Market. We got a book and some delicious cookies. (I’m hungry when I’m writing this, lol, so I’m talking about food more than normal. XD)

We also went to a Dragon Boat Festival. We got there in time to see the last couple boat races. It was really cool!

We went downtown Salt Lake and got some coffee. Then we went back to our airbnb to get ready for guests.

The pastor of the church that we visited and his family came for supper. It was a nice evening…even though my younger siblings were horribly crazy.

Day Nine

We went to church in the morning and then had lunch at a Mexican restaurant. (Queso and chips are the BEST!)

We drove around and looked at more houses. Then we stopped by a planetarium museum and hung out there for a while. It was a lot of fun to watch the little kids play and interact with all of the displays.

That night we had pizza and ice cream and watched The Mitchells vs. The Machines which was really funny!

Day Ten

I was missing my babies horribly. I got regular picture updates of them, but I wanted to be there in person and see them again.

We had put an offer on a house and it was accepted. That was lovely news!

Dovid was sick and throwing up all night. He continued to do so through the day. I really hate vomiting related sicknesses. *shudders* We hung out at the airbnb for the morning and watched some of the Nailed It show. We were waiting to see if Dovid would be okay to travel or not.

That afternoon we tentatively left the airbnb and took a nice walk down to a lovely waterfall. I was kicking myself for leaving my camera. You’ll just have to take my word that it was lovely!

We got lunch – burgers, fries and – yep – more ice cream. Dovid ate way more than he should have. And yes, he threw up. In the van. So gross.

We walked around a museum with a ton of taxidermied animals. Yoveil kept saying, “Hada, are they alive?”

We had *coughs* more ice cream that night and watched some of the Call the Midwife episodes! I love those! They’re so sad and the stories are so good.

Day Eleven

We were flying back late that night. We packed up our stuff in the airbnb that morning. Then we toured our new house. It is in a really nice neighborhood and the upper part of the house is very bright and clean.

We got some bread and cheese sauce for lunch. We split a few pastries and stopped at a store. XD We were going to visit the Utah Capital, but drove a little farther and found the beautiful Ensign Peak trail.

It was a beautiful day. The weather was perfect – not too hot. The trail was fairly steep, but it was so beautiful. It was definitely worth it. The scenery was amazing. Yoveil was my hiking buddy. She normally struggles to find motivation to walk far at all. But she was very excited about “climbing the mountain” and she found amazing energy and strength to do it!

Me and Yoveil ended up running down the path for most of the way back. It was SO MUCH FUN. It was the first time I was able to run since getting my boot off and I enjoyed every second of it!

We got to the airport and realized that our flight was leaving earlier than we realized. So we were all literally running through the airport and trying to get to our gate in time. XD I’m sure we looked absolutely ridiculous with our bags bobbing on our shoulders and Dovid in the stroller and all of us laughing and stressed. 😂 Thankfully, we made it with a little time to spare.

We had two flights to get home. The first one was short. Jehosheba and I talked the entire time. By the time we boarded the second flight, it was after midnight. We were all so tired. Airplane seats are not the most comfortable place to sleep. XD I would drift off for a minute and then bob awake again when my head slumped forward or to the side. XD It was a nice quiet flight, though. Aside from the fact that Dovid threw up. *gags*

We got off the plane early in the morning. Then we had to wait for the shuttle to take us back to our van. We waited. And waited. And waited. It started to get light out. We were still waiting. It was disheartening to watch all of the other shuttle services come and go multiple times while we were still standing there. Waiting.

It was eight AM by the time we got home. We were all so exhausted. I checked on my babies (all were doing well) and then fell into bed and slept until twelve in the afternoon! I was planning to be productive that day, but all that happened was me cleaning a bit, writing a bit and doing a whole lot of Diamond Dotz.

That was our trip to Utah! It wasn’t the most interesting one that we have had, but we got to see a lot of amazing scenery and eat a lot of delicious ice cream. 🙂
