Random Life Update: May

Hello friends! Welcome to the end of May. It was a crazy busy month here! It seemed to go by really fast and to drag on all at the same time. *nods* Time is a confusing thing. I doubt anyone truly understands it…

The month was kicked of with another Crazy Writing Week! Go Team Fork!!! It was so much fun and I enjoyed it a lot. Jehosheba and I were finally on the same team (and we won, which was awesome). Our friends Kaley and Rosy Marr participated, too, and we were all getting points for Team Fork. It was one of the funnest CWW’s that I’ve participated in so far.

I got a ton written on the first draft of my new novel. CWW was exactly what I needed to kill the procrastination that had been clinging to me. Now I’m close to being finished with the draft – I should be finished before Jehosheba’s birthday at the end of June. That’s my goal, anyway!

Our friends from Kansas City, the Chaver’s, came to visit us. We saw them last year, when we lived in Tennessee. It was so wonderful to have them stay with us for a few days. The little boys, Elias and Matthias, were so adorable. It was really fun to watch everyone play together.

One of the things that we did together was to visit Ponce City Market. We’ve been there a few times and it’s always really fun. Crazy busy, but fun. We got chicken sandwiches and then split 5 Daughter’s Donuts. ๐Ÿ˜

Elias is sooo cute!
Enjoying lunch!
Me beloved chicken sandwich
Donuts!

For Mother’s Day we went to an art festival type thingy. It reminded me a lot of the fall festivals that our family used to go to with grandparents. Except that it was blazing hot and there were a lot more people. After much whining and complaining and begging to be held from the younger kids, we left and went out for a great Indian meal. When we got home, Daddy made really good panacada. He made two flavors. One was lemon and the other was Irish cream. Mama opened her presents. โค It was a fun day.

When I was little, I had an irrational fear of sinkholes. One Christmas heard someone talking about how they could swallow up houses without warning and that sent me into a complete panic. (I was a strange little kid who was afraid of just about everything. When we were moving to Missouri for a farm internship, we stopped at a hotel and I saw something on the TV that was talking about avalanches. For the next three or four days, I was close to sick with panic because I was sure that an avalanche was going to come down the non-existent mountains and kill us…even though it was the middle of summer… *ends bunny trail*) In any case, we discovered that we had two or three little sinkholes in our backyard. ๐Ÿ˜ถ That was…interesting and quite disconcerting. But the sinkhole people came and filled them. Still…. I can just imagine what Younger Me would have done if I’d found out that there were sinkholes by our house…

We got a year pass for Six Flags and we went there on a Saturday. It was…wow, I mean, it was a lot different than I expected. For someone who has sensory issues…the massive amounts of swirling people, the screaming, the loudness of the rides, the heat, the brightness of the sun glinting off all of the metal…it was exhausting. But we had a good time anyway. We went on a few rides and waited in long lines. ๐Ÿ˜† Jehosheba, Baruch, Yoveil and I rode the Great American Scream Machine. I sat next to Yoveil and felt so bad for her! She’s so small that she was just flopping around. She ended up closing her eyes and clinging to my arm desperately for most of the ride. When it was finished, she wanted to do it again! It was really fun to see everyone enjoy the rides. Even Daddy went on two of them! ๐Ÿ™‚

Welcome to chaos

Another weekend we went to a city a couple hours away to apply for our passports!!! We’re planning an overseas trip sometime next year(s). The lady who helped with the applications was SO NICE and so patient! It was a very positive experience. We spent the rest of the day there. We went to a little farmers market and got boiled peanuts. ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคฎ We walked around downtown, went to an art gallery, went to a coffee shop (iced coffee is the best – especially on hot days!), and went on a nice hike in a swamp. It was so lovely and I really wished that I had brought my camera. We ended the day with burgers and hot fudge sundaes. ๐Ÿ˜

We also started a new diet. It’s a low-acid one to help with reflux. It’s been…challenging. We’re also doing no gluten and no sugar, which means that my baking options are very limited. (I use lemon and acidic fruits a lot in baking…) You guys…chocolate is acidic! NO CHOCOLATE. That’s like the corner stone of my baking! *weeps its loss* We can have white chocolate in limited quantities so that is comforting. ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’s been good, though, and has really stretched my baking creativities. It’s been fun to experiment with new dessert ideas and to find out what works and what doesn’t. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also became slightly addicted to Diamond Dotz. My OT therapist introduced them to me and man, they are fun! It’s really relaxing to just sit there and stick those little “diamonds” to the canvas while listening to an audiobook or music. ๐Ÿ™‚

I read quite a bit this month. I read a few of G.A. Henty’s books. I go back and forth between really liking them and being really annoyed with them. His characters are always perfect and they all gain so much honor and wealth with comparatively little work. I also got really tired of hearing a similar storyline – mostly about lost heirs and heiresses. I read The Curse of Carnes Hold and I really liked that one. It was a lot different than the other books of his that I’d read. I loved the surprise ending, too.

I also reread The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. *weeps because LOTR is such a beautifully, sad story* I’d read them both last year, but man, I missed so much. Rereading them has given me a deeper application for them and for the amazing way that they are written.

Well friends, have a good Sunday and Memorial Day Weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚

What did you do this month? Did you participate in CWW? What did you do for Mother’s Day? Have you been to art/fall festivals? Have you been to Six Flags? Do you have food restrictions? Have you heard of Diamond Dotz? Have you read G.A. Henty’s books? Or the Hobbit/LOTR? Do you have plans for June?

  1. I have been to fall festivals. I did nothing for mother’s day. I have no idea what “CWW” is and I don’t have food restrictions. I have not been to six flags but I have been to Wild Adventures. I have not heard of “DD” I have read one of G.A. Hentys books. I have not read the hobbit or LOTR but I have seen the movies a lot of times.

      1. Yep, Diamond Dotz are really fun. You basically just stick tiny…I don’t know the name…sparkly things to a sticky canvas and it ends up making a sparkly painting. ๐Ÿ™‚
CWW is short for Crazy Writing Week. It’s a free writing contest type thingy that happens a few times a year. The next one will be in August. https://theyoungwriter.com/challenge It’s really fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ah, lucky you. We’ve been on so many different diets over the years. Haha, yeah, I get that – My body absolutely loves the IDEA of sugar, but when it gets too much of it, it is NOT happy.๐Ÿ˜‚

You have a fear of sinkholes too?!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

That chicken sandwich look so good! Is it Chic Fil A? I LOVE Chic Fil A.

Oooh, you have a fear of sinkholes? I’m glad I”m not the only one…
The chicken sandwich wasn’t from ChicFilA, but we did get ChicFilA later that week. ๐Ÿ˜† It was SO good. Their food is amazing.
Aw, thank you. I love you, too, and I’m praying for you. ๐Ÿ’–

      1. Hahaha! No, you are not the only one. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I actually lay awake in bed at night thinking, โ€œWhat if a sinkhole opens up and my house falls in?โ€ ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ญ Iโ€™ve had to stop watching the news and I canโ€™t watch horror movies or many action movies at all. I used to love them! Now, they make me think of all these things that could happen and give me anxiety. I canโ€™t get the images out of my head.

I know what you mean about sensory stuff. I am easily overwhelmed by lots of things. Iโ€™m glad you enjoyed the park! I used to go to places like Kingโ€™s Dominion and Bush Gardens with the church groups growing up. It was always a blast, but wore me out!

Thank you for the prayers. You are so sweet and loving. God bless you Hattush. ๐Ÿ’•

        1. Oh man, I do the same thing! I just worry about so many things. I’ve always been a paranoid person…..
Aw, yeah! That makes a lot of sense. Those types of things are fun, but exhausting! ๐Ÿ˜ด
Thank you. โค โค Of course. โค

  3. Hattush, it looks like you had a very eventful, fun-filled month! ๐Ÿ˜
That food sounds like it was delicious!๐Ÿ˜‹
Yikes! Sinkholes?! Near your house?! ๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ถ Ok, I’m probably not being very much of an encouragement. lol
I’ve never been to Six Flags, but I like amusement parks, and it sounds like you and so much fun, so I’d probably like it.
No chocolate?! True, I don’t eat chocolate; but for you! That must be soo hard. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ
I’ve never heard of Diamond Dotz, but they seem like they would be super fun!
We didn’t do much for Mother’s Day. We just did the usual, which was giving our mom cards.๐Ÿ˜Š
I don’t believe I’ve ever been to any art/fall festivals.
I didn’t do very many interesting, unusual things last month…yeah, I have a pretty boring life. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Oh! Had I already told you we celebrated my brother’s 16th birthday last month? He’s almost an adult! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Where did time go?
Other than the things we took out of our diet years ago, I don’t have any food restrictions…thankfully.๐Ÿ˜…
I don’t have any really big plans for June per se…except that I need to get my French done. We WERE going to have my graduation next week, but ๐Ÿ˜ญ we all got sick. *sniff* So if we want to invite anybody, than we have to wait until we’re better. (And then my sister’s b-day is coming up, so we have to wait until after that.) There was only one really bad day where I didn’t feel well. But after that, I bounced back, and now I only have minor symptoms….like basically no taste or smell…๐Ÿ˜ญ…*ahem* Anyway, I’m hoping that will come back sooner than later.
Well, I hope you have a great day, friend! ๐Ÿ˜ Love you!

    1. Yes! We did!
Yep…and guess what? We just found out that there’s another bigger sink hole right under our porch and our landlord isn’t doing anything about it because it’s going to be major expensive to fix. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
      Amusment parks are fun! ๐Ÿ™‚
Ooh, you’ll have to go to art/fall festivals some time. They have a really fun, festive atmosphere. It’s awesome!
Haha, I feel that way sometimes – that my life is really boring.
Oooh congrats on your brother’s birthday!! That’s exciting. My sister is turning 15 at the end of this month and I’m like, “When did she get so old??”
Oh no! I’m sorry that you guys got sick and that you had to postone your graduation. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ When do you think you’ll have it?
Ooh, yikes. I hope you get your taste/smell back soon!
Love you, too! Have an awesome day! โค

        Yes! They are!
        Thanks! Neat! ๐Ÿ˜„
We’ll probably have my graduation sometime mid to late July, but hopefully I’ll be able to get a job before then.
Thankfully I have my taste and smell back completely (I think). Most of my family is basically recovered, now, praise the Lord.
        Thanks! You, too! ๐Ÿ’•
