Defining Daughter of the Light

Hello friends, today I’m going to be sharing a bit about what Daughter of the Light is and my vision for it, as well as some changes that I’ll be making around here.

Why I Started DOTL

I started this blog at the end of 2018. My sister Jehosheba had already started one and she had been begging me to do the same. I was reluctant, but also secretly really interested. I was obsessed with my friend Amie’s blog, and I thought it would be really cool to have my own website. The promptings of my sister finally paid off and I started DOTL. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. If you go back and look at some of my first posts, you’ll see what I mean. *sinks into a hole*

Behind the Name

If you know me, you know that I dread coming up with names for anything. If I ever become a mother, my husband’s going to have to name the kids, ’cause there’s no way I could come up with them. *laughs*

Naming my blog was a daunting task. Jehosheba and I had brainstorming sessions and came up with a whole list of ones that were pretty similar to DOTL. I ended up choosing Daughter of the Light for several reasons.

First of all, I’m a Christian, which means that I am a daughter of God. God is our light in this world. So the name fit that way. Also, to be honest, when I started my blog I was not in a great place mentally and it got worse over the next year. (Blogging was really a huge help to me, even though I didn’t talk much about my struggles. It just gave me something to be in control of, people who supported me and something that I could at least partially succeed at.) I wanted a name that would remind me that the world wasn’t all dark and that I wasn’t always going to be lost in that darkness. πŸ™‚

So…What Is DOTL About?

Oh dear, this question. I cringe every time people mention the importance of having a niche and knowing who your audience is. I have that clearly with my secondary blog, An Inky Dream. But not here. I never have. And I fear I never will.

If you’re new to DOLT, you can expect to find a lot of randomness. (And yes, I see all of you people with perfect niches dying at that sentence). You’ll see photo dumps, Random Life Updates (once a month a do a review of what I did during that time), posts meant to encourage people in their faith, tags and awards, traveling/moving tips & tricks & stories, occasionally recipes (my family goes on a lot of diets/has food restrictions) and guest posts.

Yep. It’s a mix of random things, but I am hoping to refine it and get it less wild and random. πŸ™‚ We’ll see, though.

My Vision for DOTL

^^ I already touched on this a bit. I want to move more towards encouraging tweens/teens/young adults (and anyone who’ll read this), in their walk with God. I’m very passionate about people with mental illness and I want to bring awareness to that subject. I also want to share tips and tricks for moving/traveling. My family has moved so many times and I’ve picked up a lot of helpful things over the years and I’d love to share those with you all!

Change Is Coming

*epic music begins to play* *is all I can hear after writing that subheading*

As you know, I’m trying to finish school as well as getting serious about driving (I put it off way too long), novel writing and plans for my future. I just don’t have the time I used to for blogging (especially now that I have two blogs), which means that DOTL gets posts that are sloppy and thrown together at the last second. Before you start to worry, I’m not quitting. I love blogging way too much to do that. But I’ll be adjusting my posting schedule so that I’ll actually have time to write quality posts for you all. πŸ™‚

I also want to start a couple series (probably about mental health/illness, because that’s something that is always on my heart and I feel like it isn’t talked about enough in Christian circles), but we’ll see if I can actually make that idea a reality. πŸ˜‰

Thanks to everyone who has supported me in the last couple years of blogging. I never would have stuck to this without you! You all are amazing and you’re my inspiration. ❀

  1. I’m glad you’re not quitting, I got worried there for a second! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.
And as a person with mental illness, I would be very much interested in a series on mental health/illness, and if you want help brainstorming or anything, I volunteer. XD You’re right, it’s not talked enough about in Christian circles, and it’s something that really needs to be talked about. I’ve been planning some posts on the topic myself, and the more awareness spread, the better!

    1. Ah, thanks Chloe! ❀
Ooh, I might take you up on your offer. I'd love to brainstorm sometime (and maybe have you as a guest if you'd like?) That's really cool that you're planning some posts on the same topic. It definitely is something that needs more awareness!

  2. This was great, Hattush, it’s interesting to see how you define the blog/your “niche”! I’m excited about the changes, too! (Just make sure you keep the randomness πŸ˜‚)

  3. ❀ You're amazing. I hope you can drive your blog in this great direction you've set forth–also, who needs a niche *nervous laughter*

also, mental health is DEFINITELY something I would love to see more Christian bloggers interact with/explore, and you seem like a great person to do it πŸ™‚ ❀

Hehe, yeah, you know I think that niches are overrated. I stopped worrying about having one…Just enjoy blogging as it is. *nods*

YES. Mental health is such an important topic! Thanks! ❀

  4. You are an encourager and you must continue to serve the body of Christ. Loved reading through your journey. Awesome but it’s only beginning. Thank you for taking a stand for Jesus. Thank you so much for sharing this. I too am doing my best to stay on course to serve the Lord without being ashamed and it’s truly amazing. I recently had the opportunity to help a non-christian businessman find Jesus in his practical life and he was so excited when praying to Jesus worked when everything else he had tried had failed that he wanted to share a testimony. I have just uploaded it on video on my channel and would be happy to share it with anyone looking to see the power of Jesus at work even among the non-believers.
