Random Life Update: April

Wow, April’s over already?! Time certainly flies. This month was really fun for me. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I stayed really busy, got new pets and did coconut crafts. Let’s dive into April!

As you guys know, I got two new sugar gliders. A lady in VA was rehoming them and we decided that we’d go and pick them up. Since it was almost a ten hour drive, we thought, “Why not just turn it into a whole vacation?” We wanted to spend a significant amount of time in New York, but thanks to the strict Covid restrictions, it wasn’t possible. So we decided to just hang out in Philadelphia.

Everything was going great. We had an airbnb booked, activities planned and things were all in place…and then two days before we were supposed to leave, Dovid got sick. He had a really high fever, he was throwing up, and he was NOT feeling well at all. (It was sooo sad to watch!) We took him to the doctor and realized that he had caught a virus (not covid) that was going around. It affects little kids the worse. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ We knew that we couldn’t go on the trip with the threat of everyone getting sick while on the road. So we canceled most of our plans and decided to just do a couple days of traveling to pick up the gliders, a week or so later.

The mini trip was a lot of fun. We left early on a Thursday. We’d gone to a great scratch and dent food store a couple weeks before and I had stocked up on gum and candy. ๐Ÿ˜‰ That, plus my books, made the five hours of driving quite fun.

We grabbed some bagels for lunch and then stopped at the hotel to drop off the guinea pigs and sugar gliders. The hotel was…lovely. :/ Mama, Jehosheba, Dovid and my room had cigarette burns on the sheets and toilet (lol) and the bathroom door was off of its hinges and didn’t close all of the way. (It was one of those sliding types that are always so annoying). The whole place reeked of smoke. ๐Ÿฅด

Then we went to the historic area where the battle of Guilford Courthouse was fought. It was really neat. We’d studied up on the history of that area before coming, so it was especially interesting.

We went downtown Greensboro and we saw the sight of the Greensboro Sit-ins. (Go look up the history, guys, it’s really cool.) We just walked around for a while. It was a really peaceful, fun little area.

By that time it was getting dark and we were hungry and tired (especially the younger ones of us, lol) so we went in search of fooood! We went to an amazing mediterranean restaurant and got a ton of amazing food! *drools*

The next day we got up early and headed towards Virginia were we’d meet the lady to pick up my new gliders! I was so excited! It was a seven hour drive there. We had grab and go breakfast from the hotel.

We drove, read stories, listened to Skillet and looked out the windows. Mama read Taming the Bicycle by Mark Twain and we were all cracking up because it was so relatable.

We drove through the Shenandoah National Park. It was sooo beautiful. We’d been there before a couple years ago, and it was just as beautiful then as now.

There’s a large grassy slope behind Baruch, but from the van windows you couldn’t see it. XD It definitely scared everyone who didn’t know about the slope!

We picked up my new babies!! Yiska and Ilona were sooo adorable. And even though they bite my fingers unendingly, they were so cute. The trip was definitely worth it!

We got pizza on the way back to the hotel. Mama read a lot. It was pretty late when we got back. But Jehosheba, Mama and I had a little “girl’s night” in the hotel. ๐Ÿ™‚ I had some candy left (an astonishingly small amount) and some tea. We chatted and talked until it was really late.

The next day we walked around a little park. We grabbed donuts for breakfast and then headed home. The very long drive was filled with reading and a lot of snacking on leftover bagels. When we finally got home, Daddy set up the huge cage that came with the gliders and I got my new babies settled in. ๐Ÿ™‚

Then we had pizza (never can have too much!) and watched a movie. It was a fun mini trip. I really enjoyed it.

Aside from that, I did a bunch of school, got Ink neutered (and stayed up pretty much all night to be sure that he didn’t hurt himself), started a new OT therapy and got to 500 followers on this blog. (Thanks everyone, you are amazing!)

I also got some coconuts from the store to use to make sugar glider toys (I have a serious problem…I’m obsessed with these tiny marsupials). After a nerve wracking few minutes in which Daddy used a meat cleaver to break open the coconuts, Mama and I set to work scooping the inside out. I can say that it is much harder than all of the YouTube videos made it out to be. I got blisters on my hands from using a knife to cut out the very stubborn inside. Now I’m in the process of sanding down the outside. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s been a fun crafts!

    1. I was looking for a hypoallergenic pet and came across sugar gliders. That was about a year ago. I got a pair and fell in love with them! ๐Ÿ˜‰ They’re the best pets ever!

    Well, anyway… Hattush! Your April looks so fun!! I’m glad you were able to go and get those new suggies! I hope everything’s going great with them! (And I don’t think you’re overly obsessed with them. XD)
    I’ve never used coconuts in crafts, but that sounds like a very interesting idea!
    I’ve never been to the Shenandoahโ€™s, but it looks fun! And I don’t really have a favorite vacation spot, because we don’t go on vacation. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Last time we went on a “vacation” was like 8 or so years ago. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
    What I did last month….um, ehe…I’m trying to think here…last month and this month are blending together in my little brain. XD Maybe I should just say what I’ve been up to since last time I wrote.๐Ÿ˜ Basically I’ve been doing the usual as well as getting more opportunities to drive and editing a book about a retired doctor friend of ours. I don’t know if I’ve sent you the link yet, but here it is.http://awillingheart.org/ There is a free e-book, without all the corrections yet. And my dad is planning to get the edited book professionally printed so that he can send it to people across the country as a ministry resource.
    I’ve also been getting in touch with children from all across the country through biblememory.com, and it’s been encouraging and fun! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I’m so glad I found out about it!
    Well, that’s about all for now! I’ll save the June-looking-forward-to things for the end of this month. ๐Ÿ™‚

      I’m glad you don’t think I’m too obsessed with them! ๐Ÿ˜‰ They are doing pretty well. They’re sleeping in my lap right now. ๐Ÿ˜
      Yeah, I hadn’t really thought of using coconuts in crafts until recently. My mom is making a bowl out of one. It’s really cool and so easy!
