To Houston (part 2of 2)

December 30th

Our last full day in Houston. I was sad to see our vacation fly by so quickly. If I hadn’t wanted to get my sugar gliders home, I would have been much more devastated to leave. XD

We drove through a China Town. It was really cool. We split some authentic Chinese food for brunch. It was pouring rain. We drove past the water wall, which was neat. I should have taken a picture, but forgot. 😦

Then we went to Pier One Theatre on Galveston Island. We watched a film about the islands “beloved” pirate. 😑 (Not a fan of pirates here…seriously. They weren’t good people. I think the film did a fair job of showing both sides – what caused the pirate to be so angry and how much damage he did to innocent people).

We went to the Patty Cake’s Bakery and got some stuff there. It was cool ‘cause they had rugalach, babka and hamantaschen!

We rode on a ferry. It was a ton of fun. Yoveil was terrified that it would sink. She saw a drain in the floor as well as puddles beside it (‘cause it had been raining) and she was sure that the drain was a hole and that we were going to drown from the water that was going to come rushing in. XD For a lot of the ride, she was clinging to me and wailing “WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!” Then she saw a lifesaver and decided that when we did crash, we might not die after all ‘cause everyone in the world could grab onto the floaty and swim to safety. XD

We got to see quite a few dolphins, which was SO COOL!!! They moved too quickly for me to get pictures of, though. 😦

After the ferry, we went back to the beach and hung out there for a while.

It was colder than before, but we all got wet and soaked. XD Thankfully, we’d brought replacement clothes. XD We changed and then headed back towards the Boardwalk.

Jehosheba, Nahum, Baruch and I rode on The Bullet, which was a roller coaster. It was actually fun. Super fast. Baruch was screaming. XD XD After that, I was done with rides. But Jehosheba, Nahum and Baruch proceeded  to ride the Flare again as well as The Drop, which looked horrible. XD You free-fall from a great height. Baruch looked like a zombie after that one. He stumbled off, just staring into space with his mouth open. XD XD Mama and Yoveil rode on a kid Ferris wheel and then Daddy took Yoveil on a carousel. She looked so happy.

Then we went home and watched Frozen 1. I drank a lot of hot water in an attempt to get warm again (I was still frozen from the beach. XD)

December 31st, 2020

Raining. Dark. Cold. Perfect for the last day of 2020. After writing a very long entry in my journal about 2020, I packed up my stuff and got my sugar gliders ready for the trip home. We left the airbnb around 11:45 AM. I was so bored half way through. Time seemed to go on forever. XD We listened to a lot of AIO, I tried to read but got bored of all of my books and then resorted to staring out of the window.

We got to New Orleans around 7:15. We’d planned on stopping through on the way down, but it hadn’t worked out. It was close to dark and very cold and windy. We got out and walked to a little beignets shop. They were amazing!!! After that we walked around for almost two hours. We stopped at a coffee shop and got some coffee.

I enjoyed getting to see New Orleans. It was def interesting seeing it after dark, on New Year’s Eve. *nods*

It was around 11:20 when we finally got to the hotel. I was so tired, but it took a while to get the sugar glider settled in. We stayed up and got to say hello to the New Year. Then I staggered into bed, but wasn’t able to sleep until 1:30. Of course. XD

January 1st, 2021

After getting packed up and into the van, we looked for someplace to have brunch. A lot of it was closed, but we ended up finding a restaurant called MudBugs. It had seafood and fish and all of that. We got a bunch of food and sampled different things. It was really good. 🙂

After our meal, it was time to head home. 😦 We listened to AIO, I read, and attempted to keep the kids from fighting between themselves. We got some treats from a coffee shop (you seeing a theme yet?) and continued driving.

We got home around nine and unpacked everything. I got my gliders back into their normal cage and man, they were so happy.

Then, to celebrate the New Year, we ate the rest of Dovid’s birthday cake and watched the new Pixar movie Soul.

It ended up being a good first day of 2021. 🙂 Definitely not what I had envisioned, but good in its own way.  (Isn’t that life, though?)

Phew! So that was our trip! I hope you guys enjoyed reading. Happy New Year!

How did you spend the New Year? Christmas? What are your plans for January? Have you ever been to Houston? What is your favorite coffee shop drink/treat?

  1. This looks so fun! Looks like y’all had a great time. I agree with you about the pirate thing, i hate when movies make it seem like they are great people. 🙄😂
Ooo! AiO! I love them! Have you listened to the new episodes of the album? Or wait- do you have the club membership?

    1. Thanks! Yeah, we had an awesome time!
IKR! Seriously, they are praised and lauded, but they were NOT GOOD PEOPLE and they caused a lot of pain!
YEEES! We have the Club membership!! I’ve enjoyed listening to the new episodes. What was your favorite?

      1. Yes!
That’s great! I do too! My favorite of the new episodes is probably the one with Bridget and her mom and Wyatt being a “superhero”. I thought it was cool how they helped Bridget overcome her fear! What’s you favorite?

            1. Yeah. I think the last one – Let’s Call This Whole Thing Off – was my least favorite. Their mysteries used to be REALLY good, but recently they seem to have lost a lot of their quality. 😦 😦

  2. Fun! I enjoyed seeing all of these pictures and reading the post. Don’t worry, by the way, about the picture of you making that face. I have one that my sister got of me once that’s even worse! XD

    1. Oh man *palm to forehead* I can’t believe myself! I didn’t even respond to your questions!
For the New Year, we had family prayer going into the New Year.
We don’t really have anything very special planned for January…at least nothing I can remember at the moment.
I haven’t been to a coffee shop in a loong time, so I don’t have a favorite drink or treat. I don’t drink coffee, but there are two drinks that I like that do just fine for me and don’t have caffeine in them. The first is maca root powder (ever heard of it?). You put like a tsp into your cup, pour boiling water in, put in some honey and then some coconut milk. You can then tweak the honey till it’s just right.
The other one is chicory tea! 😋 You brew it (don’t know exactly how to do that, because my mom is the one who does that. Then you pour it into your cup through a strainer. Then you put honey in and coconut milk to taste. So good!

      1. Don’t worry about it!
That’s cool – your family prayer going into the New Year.
Hey, that’s cool! I do know about maca root powder, but I’ve never had it! Is it good? I don’t think I”ve had chicory tea BUT I have had chicory “coffee”, and it was really good!

        1. Yes! The “maca coffee” as I call it and the chicory tea are really good!
I didn’t know that there was chicory “coffee”. Are you sure we aren’t talking about the same thing?

  3. It sounds like you all had a wonderful trip going down to the beach and riding rides and eating at coffee shops. 😛 I love coffee shops too, girly so I get that! 😀 Loved the pics and ooh Frozen yees! I haven’t seen Soul yet. Is it good?!

    1. Yes, it was awesome! Haha, YES! Coffee shops are THE BEST!
Um. Soul was…strange. XD That’s the best way I can describe it. It definitely wasn’t Pixar’s best.
