October was an insanely busy month. So much happened and I can’t believe that it was all over the span of 31 short days.
On the 2nd, we left our home in Tennessee and headed to our new rental in Georgia. We spent the first week cleaning a. lot. We’ve lived in a lot of houses with varying degrees of cleanliness (or lack there of) and I always forgot how dirty something can look without actually being dirty. Like…you spend a really long time scrubbing something that’s supposed to be white (but’s more of a dingy yellow) only to realize that nothing is coming off and the dirt is somehow baked into it. FRUSTRATING.
On the 10th, I had my 17th birthday! It was awesome. It was so much fun and I had a great day. It’s weird to think that I’m just three years away from not being a teenager anymore (can’t wait to get rid of the teenage stereotyping!)
And then came The Week Where We Drove Too Much. It was crazy. On that Monday we drove three hours back to Tennessee to grab the rest of our stuff from the house and do The Final Clean (yes, I did capitalize the letters because it is a major thing with us. Seriously. You buy a house that we lived in and you’ll never find anything so clean). It was a very long drive during which I had a bag of candy that I was planning to eat over the rest of the month. *coughs* It, uh, went away almost completely in a few hours….and yes, I was rewarded with a lovely headache and a sugar overdose. π
Then after that, on Thursday, we had to go back to Tennessee to sign the documents for the final house closing there. Six+ hours of just driving. Plus more time spent in the van. It was a whole day event that ended with me having a massive headache and a throbbing jaw. (Did I mention that I caved, bought a pack of gum and remembered quickly why I had been avoiding it in the first place??)
The next day, Friday, we went four hours into South Georgia and four hours back to get a trailer for Daddy’s work. The lil kids were not excited about going and my brother proposed that I stay home and babysit. Since we’re in a new area, his hopes were not granted. He proposed that we kids would all sit in the bathroom together until they got home – for safety reasons. XD I don’t know about you, but I’d rather spent 8+ hours in a van than in a bathroom. XD At least in the van, siblings are strapped down and held in place with seatbelts.
The trip itself was…an adventure to say the least. We realized that the trailer place was just a couple extra hours away from Florida and the ocean. Since we kids had never been to Florida before, we decided, “Eh, what’s another couple hours?!” and we drove there. On the way, our van (which will live in infamy forever) decided to give us trouble. Again. It seems to SENSE long trips and break down. π
In any case, we made it to the ocean JUST in time to watch the sun set over the water. It was SO BEAUTIFUL. SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! Then we walked around downtown a little, grabbed a scoop of ice cream and got ready for the loooong drive home.
It was insanely long. Hour after hour of driving in the dark, listening to Institute for Christian Research lectures (very very interesting) and trying to keep Tiny asleep. We got home around 4:15 AM. We were all soooo tired and wanted sleep more than anything else. XD But it was a fun trip and I’m glad we got to take it!
I counted up the hours that we spent JUST driving during those three days…a grand total of….32 hours. THIRTY TWO HOURS. That’s crazy. My mind is blown. XD π€―π€―
Needless to say, I spent a lot of time reading. Lots and lots of reading. XD I now know more than anyone else my age (probably) about curing tooth decay, the reasons why “low fat” foods will be the death of humanity and why processed foods are slowly killing America. Don’t ask me why I find those types of books interesting.
I also read quite a bit of the Lord of the Rings books and discovered that they were so well done, so funny and so amazing. I love the characters and MAN, I died laughing over Treebeard and the Ents because they reminded me so much of our family. We are NOT hasty when it comes to just about everything. Sometimes I wonder if snails, slugs and turtles make up their minds faster than we do….ππ
Baruch’s birthday was near the end of October. For weeks before he was excited about his gifts, begging to know what they were and trying to peak while everyone was ordering them. XD
Baruch’s birthday itself was pretty good. He had a lot of fun – got doughnuts for breakfast and had mini doughnuts on top of his cake! He was thrilled with all of his presents. It was SO cute to see him get so excited over all of it!

This cake was all things BARUCH. Peanut butter. Chocolate. A combination of flavors. Elaborate. *licks lips* YUM.

Lighting the candles! π

The beautiful glowing cake!

The birthday boy eagerly awaits his piece of cake! π
A few days after B’s birthday, we had to go back to TN again because my brothers had dyslexia testing that they had to do. Because we had to be there pretty early, we had to leave here by five. Which means I got up way earlier than normal. My sugar gliders were still up to bid me goodbye! XD
It was all perfect – we were driving in a dark van and the sun hadn’t risen yet. Christian radio was on and familiar songs were echoing through the van. The soothing sound of gentle rain was lulling me to sleep. I thought, “This is great. This is my idea of a perfect morning.”
Famous last words. A few minutes later we heard gagging. And retching from the backseat. Yoveil got sick for no apparent reason and ended up throwing up. We think she may have been hungry (Baruch used to throw up quite often before breakfast because he was so hungry) and after she ate (cautiously on our part!) she seemed a lot better.
While the boys and Mama were in the dyslexia testing, Daddy and the rest of us got bagels and coffee. It rained all day, so we didn’t get to do stuff outside. π¦ We went to an art museum and it was pouring rain. We were all running inside, but by the time we got there we were SOAKING. Yoveil and Dovid looked so pitiful with water running off of the ends of their hair! π
In any case, it ended up being a fun day and I went home very very tired. XD Because of all the storms, we lost our power for most of the next day. (Bye bye school. π¦ Most of mine in online, so I was wandering around wishing I could do it XD).
Hilarity From Nahum
(Uh, so, you may not want to read this if you’re not into sarcastic, gross humor….XD My brother was filled with doughnuts, sugar and boredom at the moment he spoke these words and I’m sure he’s duly embarrassed now. XD)
So this was at the end of one of previously mentioned long trips. It was dark and everyone was bored and tired. Mama, Jehosheba, Nahum and I were all talking and Nahum started listing a bunch of words for, uh, poopoo.
Nahum: there’s poop, dung and feasties!
Jehosheba and I died laughing.
Jehosheba: you mean feces, not feasties!
Nahum: …oh. Yeah.
After way too long on that subject, we also got on the subject of poetry and Nahum started up again with his humor…I’ll spare you most of it.
Mama: Hey, you could write a poem.
Nahum: No. I can’t. *goes off into speech about poo*
Mama: You could write a poem about poop. The Ode to Poopoo!
*dies laughing*
Sorry guys…..that was probably more info than you wanted. XD Jehosheba and I ended up in a whole discussion about how glad we were that no one was listening to our conversation. XD Welcome to my life. XD
I hope you guys have had a great October! Let me know what all you did in the comments!

Sounds like you had a very fun-filled month! Wow! I don’t think we’ve ever cleaned a house we were moving out of THAT thoroughly!
Oooh! Those car trips sound fun (minus the breakdown).
October, here, was a pretty fun month for us, too! We celebrated my mom’s birthday (then two weeks later celebrated one of my sister’s 20th birthday). We also, due to the recent hurricane, had a power outage that lasted a full 24 hours+! It was kinda fun (especially since we had a generator to provide SOME power, and the rest of the time we “roughed” it. π)

Yes! We had an awesome month!
The trips were a lot of fun. And the good thing about the breakdowns are that they were leading us to get a new van. XD lol
Aw that’s so fun! Happy late birthday to your mom and sister!
Wow, 24 hours+ without power? I agree – it can be kind of fun! And everything is sooo quiet without everything running!

Oh, neat! LOL! XD
Thanks!
Yeah, it was a little bit of a challenge, but we got through it. However, it wasn’t THAT quiet–what with a lot of the neighbors around us running their generators (not to mention, ours was running right outside the window, and we had to keep the upstairs bedroom windows open for most of the night. XD However, through even that, when I did sleep, I slept like a rock.) That evening, my brothers and I had gone for a walk with my dad, and without the street lights, you could see lots of stars. With the moon shining brightly, and the temperature just perfect. it was a VERY lovely moonlit walk.

It’s amazing how much we use electricity for in our daily lives!
Ahh! That sounds like a lovely moonlit walk!!! Getting to see all of the stars and the moon! π

Yes! You don’t realize how much you depend on and appreciate it until you lose it. Isn’t that how it is with most things in our lives?
I agree! β€

Yes, it truly is. We don’t fully appreciate the things we have until we lose them. π¦
