Yoveils are very unique pets. They are native to Missouri, but are now making their way through several different states. Yoveils thrive in places with neutral weather. They do not like extreme heat or cold. They are very sensitive creatures with big hearts and a curious personality. They require a lot of care, and cannot be bought on a whim and then neglected. They have long life spans and thrive on attention and love.
If you are considering getting a Yoveil as a pet, continue reading to see if they are right for you and your family.
Diet
Yoveils are extremely picky eaters. They are reluctant to eat most vegetables, including lettuce, broccoli, peas, carrots, peppers and tomatoes. Their favorite food is bread and butter. They also love corn dogs, fries, and biscuits & gravy. They have a love-hate relationship with chocolate. They like it if it is melted, but they won’t eat a chunk of chocolate, chocolate ice cream or most chocolate cakes, brownies or other chocolate based desserts. They do, however, love sweet foods and will eat them before you have a chance to stop them. They must be hand-fed all of their meals, otherwise they will not eat. They must have three large meals a day, plus dessert and snacks.
You should always have a cup of fresh water on the table for them or access to a water bottle. They get very grumpy when they are dehydrated.
Habitat
A Yoveil needs quite a large home, as well as a fenced in backyard. The home should have at least two bathrooms, three bedrooms and a large kitchen. While Yoveils love to run and explore, they are also scared to be alone, and will cling to you when they are going into new places. They hate closets, and the dark and being alone when taking a bath. Yoveils are scared to sleep in their own bed, and will be happiest if they can share yours. They love to kick off the blanket, no matter how cold it is, so be sure to dress them in warm clothes during the winter months.
Health
Yoveils are very sensitive to scratches. Even the tiniest one will cause a flood of tears, screams and weeping. If not properly addressed, the weeping has the potential to go on for 30 – 60 minutes. After a Yoveil has been injured, you must hold her and comfort her and speak softly to her – and then distract her. If she sees the hurt, she will break into a second round of sobs, so putting a Band-Aid over it can help.
Temperament
Yoveils have a wide range of temperaments. When they are happy, they love to run, squeal, talk very fast, climb on you, dance and sing. When they are angry, they will cross their arms, growl at you and turn their backs to you. Avoid yelling at them – this only causes them to break into unstoppable sobs. When they are sad, they can be difficult to comfort.
Care & Grooming
Yoveils love baths, but you have to stay with them, otherwise they get scared and cry. They love to change their clothes. They have very unique interests when it comes to clothes. They want to pick them out, and if you suggest a shirt or a dress, they will turn it down in favor of their own choice. They hate having their hair brushed.
They are very sensitive to temperature change. Make sure to have the car room temperature before they get in – they do not do well when things are too hot or cold.
They need a significant amount of time daily. You’ll have to play with them for at least three hours, hold them for most of the rest of the day, and make sure that they don’t get into trouble. When they are babies, under three years old, they will cry a lot at night and you will have to get up and walk them back to sleep. They thrive on companionship and they love having the spotlight.
Yoveils have a big heart and love deeply. If you spend time with them, love them and let them know that they are safe, they will lavish love upon you and follow you everywhere. They’re good companions, always ready to make you laugh and to listen when you’re sad. They give great hugs and have a wonderful sense of humor. Yoveils aren’t always easy to care for, but they’re worth the effort.

Quote from Yoveil after she heard this read: “I don’t want one of those, because I don’t want to have to walk with it in the night time. I would be so tired the next day.” XD XD XD ISN’T THAT SO CUTE?!
